Bombardier Bulletin 5/07/08
HOUSE BILL 2393
This morning we took a giant step for Missouri’s economy! House Bill 2393 (the legislation I sponsored to bring a Mega-Project to Missouri) was Truly Agreed and Finally Passed by a bipartisan vote of 138 to 14.
This bill allows Missouri to offer an incentive package that could trigger an aircraft manufacturing company to invest $400 million into building an assembly plant near Kansas City, creating up to 2100 new, high-paying jobs for Missouri citizens.
The company, Bombardier, has confirmed it is considering a site at Kansas City International Airport that, when at full capacity, would employ 2,100 workers at an average wage of $63,000. The company would invest a total of $3.2 billion in research, development and structure for the project.
In addition, this project could create 5000 new indirect jobs state wide, having a $5 billion economic impact state wide.
In addition to the Bombardier opportunity, the foundation is now set for other Missouri mega-projects in the future. Missouri is now on a level playing field with other states, and countries, attracting mega-projects and their high-paying, quality jobs.
I am very proud of my colleagues in the House for the bipartisan commitment they maintained throughout the process of finalizing this legislation. We can be proud of our work here today – and the citizens of Missouri can look forward to a brighter economic future, thanks to House Bill 2393.
Thank you.
